Centered around a 700-acre estate in Guyana’s Pomeroon River region, Pomeroon Trading is a socially responsible grower and processor of coconuts and spices. They’re on a mission to transform the Guyanese coconut industry by growing thousands of seedlings while empowering the local community through social initiatives and employment opportunities.
Pomeroon Trading is addressing the lack of availability of coconut seedlings in Guyana by establishing a coconut nursery, as well as exporting coconut water and value adding by using coconut husks for biofuels. They’re embarking on a tech-driven rehabilitation program that includes replanting the estate with more efficient coconut varieties, as well as intercropping with avocado, turmeric, black pepper, passionfruit, ginger, moringa and stevia.
Pomeroon Trading is striving to be an integrated coconut and spice grower, with assets spread across the Caribbean, while also supporting the local community through a range of initiatives. Key to the company’s philosophy is their community engagement and corporate social responsibility programs that focus on youth education and the empowerment of women in the region.
